Blog 76: 3- Some Of The Most Under Rated & Overlooked Soul/RnB Composer In The Last 30 Years

Part 3

I really hope you have enjoyed our parts 1 and 2 and if there’s any soulful artistes that you might think really should or shouldn’t  be on our lists please do contact us, this will also help us to improve.

Our part three edition comes with an incredible crooner and two very soulful singers that we really think should have been way more famous than they were in their heydays especially one in particular whom in my opinion has the third best female voice of all time behind the late Whitney Houston and Phyllis Hyman.

Just to give you a clue, she is married to a basketball legend.

Tony Terry

WoW! What can I say, where has music gone? Real music that is!
If you haven’t heard the song ‘With You’ then I don’t know what to tell you. Listed as one of the the top ten wedding songs of all time for first dance, Tony Terry’s first album ‘Forever Yours’ serenaded us with classics exactly 30 years ago this year.

It was his second eponymous album that really cemented his authenticity as a certified crooner with the ballad ‘With You’ which was executive produced by the legend Anita Baker and video directed by Blair Underwood. I hope he is still somewhere making music because he can’t waste such a talent.

When we talk about the music scene in Canada we hear big names like Celine Dion, Drake and Justin Bieber, right?
It pisses me off a lot of the times when the Tamia’s is seldom mentioned or sometimes not at all.

Listen to Stranger In My House and tell me if there’s one female artiste today on the radio that can touch the vocals. You name one,                                               I’ll wait.
Arguably the third best female vocals behind Whitney Houston and Phyllis Hyman, this Canadian chanteuse has the voice  that you can put your money on any day. Pick up any of her albums to see what I am talking about:

  • 1998: Tamia
  • 2000: A Nu Day
  • 2004: More
  • 2006: Between Friends
  • 2012: Beautiful Surprise
  • 2015: Love Life

Deborah Cox

Another Canadian super singer that should have been way more popular, very successful in her own rights Deborah Cox should have been way more popular with her Jazzy soulful sound.

With hits like Sentimental, Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here and Absolutely Not, the married mother of the married mother of three came to the scene in 1995 and never looked back since. After her sophomore album things never really went back to what they were in her heyday but she is still touring and making music.

Please leave a comment to let us know what you think.

I like it, simple and straight to the point. A little more visual added to the 2 Youtube ones would be nice methinks.
