Blog 76: From Rags to Riches to Rags Again: Apex Of Stupidity.

If you have ever had the chance to be around people with real money you will notice that their demeanor is very different everyday people. They are extreme in personality, good or bad.

I have come to find out that the reason they act or behave to the highest degree is because of the magnification that access to wealth brings.

Money does not change people, money magnify people.

If you are a naturally nice person, money will enlarge the niceness in you so others can see clearer and the same goes if you are bad or stupid.

Old money or people born into wealth tend to be more reserved and less vulgar than self made who made it ‘on their own’ at a young age, young money is what they are called.

Young money is also referred to people who accidentally bumped into vast sums of money without really working for it, this can come in form of inheritance or lottery/lotto win. This is where you mostly find the stupid ones, so stupid it makes you wonder why did mother LUCK  gave them the opportunity in the first place.

Below is my top five most stupid lottery winners of all time.

#5 Callie Roger £1.8 million, 2003

There was a possibility that her teenage thought process (16 years old) played a big part in squandering all her winnings, but there is no justification for her stupidity, where was her family?

Spent most of her money on cosmetic surgery and expensive vacation for herself and her boyfriend.

In 2013 she only had £2,000 in the bank and together with her boyfriend and two kids, they moved in with her mother .

#4 David Lee Edwards $27m, 2001.

This man had to be one of the dumbest profligate I have read about. On Saturday August 25th, 2001 his life changed from a jobless man to a multi millionaire.

He immediately spent $1 million on cars right away, he had so many cars his neighbours in the plush Palm Beach Gardens, Florida complained to authority to ascertain if a car dealer shop had just opened in the wealthy residential community.

In five years all the cash had gone and he resulted to crime to fuel his drug habit.

He died in January 2014 at the age of 58, alone and penniless at a Kentucky hospice.

#3 Michael Carroll £9.7 Million, 2002.

I remember where I was when I saw every TV stations praising this young man who took out trash bins for a living to becoming a millionaire overnight.

In 2010, eight years after his winning, he asked his old boss for his £200 a week job back as a binman but was refused so he went to work for a biscuit factory. He burned through almost £10 million in such a short amount of time. That must have been one hell of a party.

#2 Evelyn Adams $5.5 million, 1985 and 1986

How lucky can anyone be scooping the lottery two successful years in a row to the total of $5.4 million (about $20 million today).

She took her winning and headed straight to the casinos in Atlantic City where she lost everything.

By 2001, she was living in the trailer above. Talk about stupidity, it does not get worse than this.

#1 Jose Antonio Cua-Toc $750,000, 2010

This is a sad case of an illegal immigrant in Houston Texas from Guatemala, South America.

In 2010 he bought a lottery ticket for change and won $750,000.

Afraid that he might be deported he asked his boss where he worked to help him cash the winning and the boss kept the money for himself.

As it became evident that his boss had gypped him out of his money, he blew the whistle and the authority detained him on the ground of been in the country illegally.

The court eventually ordered his former bos to hand the money over to Mr Cua-Toc but after the case was finalised, 90 % of the money had been spent on lawyer fees.

He faced deportation.
