This is a perfect example of the old adage ‘You don’t know what you have until it’s gone’ and for anyone who still think that been cool is living a life of thuggery and false pretences, please read up on Aaron Hernandez’s story.
Following the suicide of this 27 year old who had it all at one point, A mansion in North Attleborough, a beautiful wife and a lovely daughter, a $40 million contract as a New England Patriot football star that most teenagers and young men would die to have, questions still arise in my mind as to why would he throw it all away just to be ‘a gangsta’?
Perhaps his naive thinking led him believe at the time that his money and fame would help him beat the case which he was later convicted for in the 2013 murder of his wife’s sister’s boyfriend Odin Lloyd, however we look at it, Hernandez case is not just a sad one.
It is also a poignant reminder for us all to count our blessings for just been alive and well because we can lose everything by making a wrong decision, deliberate or not.
Since his incarceration back in 2013, his former team The New England Patriots have won two Super Bowl and to make matters worse, just 2 days before he found hanged in his cell, his team mates was hosted by President Trump who praised feat in the last win which Hernandez could have been part of.
As a result of the time he had to reflect in prison on how he squandered his life at such a young age, he decided to take his own life and as you can imagine it was a hard pill to swallow, doing a life sentence without the possibility of parole when he could have been utilising his talent in more ways than one.
Three suicide notes were left in a bible on John 3:16 which reads ‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’
Hernandez also wrote John 3:16 across his forehead when his lifeless body was found in his cell.
The painful part to his end is that his daughter will never see her father again and the opportunity of him walking her down the aisle as most young girl dream of has evaporated.
