The 51 year old media mogul, now worth a staggering $1.4 billion, is an exemplar philanthropist who was once refused ‘a seat at the table’ of Hollywood’s power brokers.
Instead of grovelling to be accepted, he built his own table from the discomfort of his car- a place he called home at the time he was homeless and down on his luck.
The Madea creator who described his humble beginning to be “poor as hell” told Forbes, “ownership changes everything”. Talking about his 330 acre Tyler Perry Studio which he paid $30m in 2015, “I own the lights. I own the sets”. “So that’s where the difference is. Because I own everything, my returns are higher.”
A breakdown of how Forbes calculated his wealth below revealed majority of his cash flow is invested in entertainment with less than 1% in real estate.
